Our History
A founder's journey from frustration to innovation in healthcare data management
A Founder's Journey
In 2006, I moved from academic medicine to private practice in Southern California. One of my biggest frustrations was getting patient information at the point of care to make informed decisions about their health.
Most providers used paper charts with cumbersome authorizations and faxes. I realized if patients had all their health records with them, they could provide them easily at the point of care. That is when I decided to create MyMR (my medical records).
The HITECH Act Era
In February 2009, the Obama administration signed the HITECH Act to incentivize electronic health records (EHR) implementation by clinical providers. In 2008, I and friends developed a PHR platform using digital storage and software.
We were successful in filing a patent and registering a trademark. However, we hit a wall with providers due to lack of interoperability and abandoned the project in 2010.
"Due to lack of universal standards, EHRs developed in silos without communication. The patient was completely left out except to provide signature consent."
The Time Has Come
Because of changes in regulations, improvements in interoperability, communication technology, secure storage, and AI/ML, the time for MyMR has come. MyMR was reconstituted in 2021 with like-minded experts.
Current
MyMR targets legacy systems by exchanging health data in PDF format with proprietary software and AI agents.
Future
Include patient tools with authentication, permissions management, and AI agents for personalized health improvement.
Our Vision
The patient should have the right to do as they please with their health data. Health IT will rapidly adopt AI, data synthesizing tools, and provider systems that lead to more productive and evidence-based care.
